Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, MRSC, FHEA(UK), Additional Professor of Environmental Health
Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal is leading research in the area of Environmental Health at School of Public Health, Department of Community Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Before joining PGIMER, he worked as ‘Scientist’ at University of Hertfordshine, UK. Dr. Ravindra has an outstanding acedemic record and obtained a ‘Doctor of Science’ degree from University of Antwerp, Belgium. He has authored more than 80 articles (citation: > 5200, h-index: 29). Some of his articles are listed as highly cited by ‘Web of Science’. Dr. Khaiwal has received several awards ans scholarships in the field of ‘Environmetal Health’ and was the finalist of ‘Elsevier National Academy of Sciences, India – SCOPUS 2014’ Youth Scientist Award. Recently, he has been awarded US Department of State ‘International Visitors Leadership Fellowship (IVLP – 2018)’
Dr. Khaiwal has working experience in international projects such as InterREG , EXPER/PF, ENVIRISK, CAIR4HEALTH, HENVINET, MEGAPOLI and TRANSPHORM. His research interests involve monitoring of pollutants, chemical composition and source, apportationment, health risks assessment. Dr. Khaiwal is serving various journals ans international grant commisions as reviewer. He is also a member of editiorial board of ‘International Journal of Environment and Waste Mangement’,’Air, Soil ans Water Research’, ‘Forum Geographic’,’Journal of Environment and Waste Management’,’Air, Soil and Water Research’, ‘Forum Geographic’,’Journal of Enviornmental Biology,’Aerosol and Air Quality Research’ and ‘Environmental Monitoring and Assessment’.
School of Public Health has been on leading front to conduct research on ‘Air Pollution and Health’ including Particulate Air Pollution in Asia (PAPA) and Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiological (PURE) studies. Recently, School of Public Health has been proposed as ‘Center for Excellence’ as a part of National Mission on Health under ‘Prime Minister Council of Climate Change’. Dr Khaiwal is leading task to draft ‘Adaption/ Mitigation plan for diseases due to Air Pollution and Climate Change’. He is also the nodal facilitator for Department of Health Research – Fellowship Training Programme in the area of Environmental Health. Dr. Khaiwal also served as Expert Member in National Green Tribunal (NGT) cases. He is also a member of Core Group to develop the methodology/ guidelines related to health risk assessment under Ministry of health & Family Welfare.
